Let me tell you a little about what I do for a living.

I am a web application developer which means I specialize in systems which accomplish specific tasks, often workflow related. Unlike a standard website where the main purpose is to present information, a web application lets a user process and manipulate information usually using a back-end database engine.

A good example of a common web application is web e-mail. A user creates a document, processes the document, then sends it to another user. A user may organize and delete messages they have sent and received. This is a simple example, but it illustrates the "functional" aspect.

I have written a number of applications which companies use internally to manage core business functions like customer service, billing, as well as managing visitor access to buildings.
